Halfway through the Year!

Messing around at Target at 9:30 pm on a school night. Who am I?

Here we are; it's the 4th of July weekend already! Summer is half over. Next Tuesday, you will see all the Back-to-School supplies at Target & Walmart, and Hobby Lobby will have "It's Fall Ya'LL" out, and Christmas decorations will begin to appear! YIKES!

So, we are officially halfway through the year. How do you feel? Are the resolutions from January 1st long gone? Or are you still working on them?

This year, personal development continues to be a priority for me. Healthy life changes like drinking more water, getting better sleep (still a work in progress), and making better food choices. Keeping my morning routine. Not beating myself up if something doesn't go the way I want it to.

Extending grace and compassion to others and myself in all aspects of life. Seeking to understand with curiosity why someone thinks the way they do? Not engaging in conversations when I know all it will do is divide me from someone I care about. I'm praying and doing more mindful practices like meditation and yoga. I'm focusing on the fact that God is near. So close because the Holy Spirit is in me. Because I have let go of my drug of choice, I can now be fully present for Him and my family and friends.

A few months ago I mentioned that we were going to start a podcast, and WE DID! The Alcohol Free Marriage Podcast has just released episode #13! The goal of the AFM podcast is to share that there is another way of living. We are using our platform to educate and share stories of how life can be better living alcohol-free. We want living alcohol-free and not drinking alcohol to be just as normal as drinking alcohol. It’s truly amazing all the energy you have to do new things when you feel great!

Tune in every Monday! Like, Subscribe and

Fun fact or not so fun- the way our body processes alcohol it can take up to 24 to 72 hours to get the effects of alcohol out of our system. Not just the alcohol but the chemicals our body processes to get the alcohol out of our body. Because of this, I never had alcohol totally out of my system for probably 7 years. That takes a toll on your body! Add perimenopause and menopause to this, and I was one hormonally messed up person!

*Depending on the body system and test used, alcohol detection times may vary. Alcohol can stay in your system between 6-72 hours in most cases, depending on the detection test used. Alcohol detection tests can measure alcohol in the blood for up to 6 hours, on the breath for 12 to 24 hours, urine for 12 to 24 hours (72 or more hours with more advanced detection methods), saliva for 12 to 24 hours, and hair for up to 90 days. The half-life of alcohol is between 4-5 hours. For more info, click here.

So, you want to take a break from alcohol, but you don't know when to do it? Do it now. There's always an activity or a vacation. Also, take the thought out of your mind that you are quitting forever! You don't have to! You are just taking a break to see what your life could look like without drinking alcohol. That's what I did! I still don't say, "I can't have a drink." I can have a drink whenever I want one- I'm a grown woman! I just found that when I took a break, I felt sooo good! I still feel great, and I love my AF Life!
